U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits Manila Nov. 12-13

United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will visit Manila on November 12-13, 2009 to show solidarity with the Filipino people in the wake of the destructive typhoons that hit the country recently.

During her visit, the Secretary will participate in events that will be open to media representatives who: (a) have the ID/accreditation that Malacanang will issue for coverage of the visit; and (b) will be at the designated areas for journalists no later than the time set for their assembly at the specified venues.

Following are the Secretary’s activities that are open to the media, and the guidelines for attending the events:

November 12 (Thursday)

Arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Journalists who will participate in this photo opportunity event must be at the Media Affairs Office, NAIA, Terminal One no later than 9:00 a.m. For questions please contact Connie Bungag at 0920-908-5587 or 854-0015.

Meeting with Secretary Alberto Romulo. The two officials will be available for photo spray before their meeting followed by a joint press availability at the Goldenberg Mansion. Journalists must be at Malacanang Palace no later than 12:00 p.m. For questions please contact Rose Garcia-Coni or Lori G. Opening of a book fair at Malanday National High School in Marikina. The Secretary and Marikina Mayor Maria Lourdes Fernando will lead the activities in this event. Vehicular traffic to the venue may be restricted, so journalists who will cover this event will be picked up by a shuttle at the Marikina City Hall Quadrangle at 12:45 p.m. The same shuttle will bring the journalists back to the quadrangle.

November 13 (Friday)

A Student Forum at the University of Santo Tomas. The Secretary will answer questions from some 800 students from various universities in Metro Manila, which will be broadcasted live on ANC. Photo journalists are welcome. Media organizations interested in receiving video and audio feed of the forum should contact Charie Villa at 09189595008. Photo journalists planning to attend this event must be at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Auditorium by 6 a.m.

Wreath-laying at the American Cemetery and Memorial. Media representatives who plan to cover this photo opportunity must be at the American Cemetery and Memorial by 7:30 a.m.

Departure at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Media representatives must be at the Media Affairs Office, NAIA, Terminal One, no later than 9:00 a.m. For questions please contact Connie Bungag at 0920-908-5587 or 854-0015.
