Stefti boy scouts adjudged overall champion in BSP Peace Jamboree

TACLOBAN CITY- The boy scout contingent of the St. Therese Educational Foundation of Tacloban, Inc. (STEFTI) was recently adjudged overall champion of the recently-concluded 2nd BSP Peace Boy Scout Jamboree held at Candahug, Palo.

STEFTI Troop 125 was declared champion over scores of other contingents for grabbing the top prizes in nine scouting competitions, and taking runner-up honors in one.

STEFTI Troop 125 was adjudged most disciplined troop, won the best in camp layout and cleanest camp categories, and claimed the top prize in the semaphore flag drill.

In addition, it also won the top spot in the semaphore sending and receiving, troop formation, skill o rama, show and do, and declamation competitions.

STEFTI’s single runner-up finish was in the Search for the Model Boy Scout , where its contestant was adjudged 2nd runner-up.

Marvin Nicer, STEFTI scouting coordinator and contingent head, said STEFTI’s victory was well deserved.

“Everyone of us prepared well and hard for the jamboree,” he said.

STEFTI Troop 125 was composed of 33 boy scouts and seven adult leaders.

Manuel Marta, the Council Scout Executive (CSE) of BSP Tacloban City Associate Council, congratulated the winning contingent and scouts.

“It shows that boy scouts from Tacloban City are as good as scouts from any other place in the province and region,” he stressed.

The BSP Peace Boy Scout Jamboree is an annual, province-wide scouting activity participated in by scouts from all over Leyte and other guests from neighboring councils in the Eastern Visayas Region.

The peace jamboree and encampment has the objectives of creating critical awareness in all participating scouts the horrors of war and glean from it valuable lessons towards achieving peace in the country and the world; providing the participants valuable insights on the heroism of the men who fought in the Second World War, particularly those Filipino veterans who sacrificed for the country; and applying scout skills in friendly competition that will foster friendship and camaraderie.
