OCD issues flood alert due to low pressure area near ES
TACLOBAN CITY — The Office of Civil Defense in Eastern Visayas has issued a flood alert on Wednesday as a low pressure area was spotted near Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
All local government units and the residents where possible flooding incident may arise due to continuous rains brought by the bad weather condition were advised to take appropriate actions as a precautionary measure, Rene Moshe Amano, operations aide of the OCD-8, said yesterday.
According to him, the heavy and continuous rains being dumped by the low pressure area could result to flooding incidents.
He said major rivers in the region were being monitored by the local disaster coordinating councils.
Among these rivers were the Catarman, Bugko, Pambuhan and Palapag Rivers, all in Northern Samar; Taft, Dolores, Ulot Rivers in Eastern Samar; Basey, Calbiga and Silaga Rivers, all in Samar; Sangputan, Daguitan-Rabang and Pagsungahan Rivers, all in Leyte; Bisay, Himbangan and Pandan Rivers, all in Southern Leyte.
Amano said that the OCD-8 has yet to receive or monitor any flooding incidents in the region due to the low pressure area being experienced by Eastern Visayas.
Based on the weather bulletin issued by the weather bureau, a low pressure area was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 60 kms south southeast of Guiuan town, Eastern Samar.
The LPA has resulted to heavy and continuous rains in Eastern Visayas, the Bicol Region and northern Mindanao. (JOEY A. GABIETA)
