Martin supports PGMA’s decision to run for Congress in Pampanga

TACLOBAN CITY — The decision of President Macapagal-Arroyo to seek for a congressional seat could spell boon for the people of the second congressional district of Pampanga.

So said her close ally Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez who added that the President has all the right to seek for any position other than post she has been holding for nine years now.

“She is very young and very strong. Her seeking for a (House) seat is a most welcome and fortunate development for the people of the second district of Pampanga,” Romualdez, who is seeking for a possible second term as congressional representative of Leyte’s first district, said.

The Leyte solon was interviewed Monday afternoon just hours after the President made her announcement of her decision to run for Congress in next year’s elections.

Romualdez said that the people of Pampanga were “very, very lucky” to have Ms. Arroyo as their representative at the House of Representatives, considering her “wealth of experience and position as a President.”

Romualdez is one of the closest allies of the President who figured prominently in a scandal involving a dinner held in a classy restaurant in New York while the President was on a state visit at the United States. The tab reached about P1 million.

Asked about the controversial dinner, which he allegedly paid, the nephew of former first lady Imelda Marcos declined to answer the question.

“Much has been said about it. So, next question na lang,” said Romualdez in parrying the question.

At the height of the controversy, Romualdez did not issue any statements about the issue of which he was pointed to have paid the P1 million tab of the Le Cirque dinner.

His congressional office, here in Tacloban City, had claimed that it was Romualdez who footed the bill.
