Leyte stages 3rd Business Month celebration in October

Tacloban City (October 1) — After the successful 1st and 2nd Leyte Business Month celebration in 2007 and 2008 respectively, the province of Leyte is staging the 3rd Leyte Business Month celebration this October, with its private sector partner, the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry once again hosting the whole event.

Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla believes that the business sector is the engine of growth in a market based economy such as the province of Leyte and the Philippines as a whole. As it is the principal sector that produces the goods and services and creates employment and wealth of the province, the stronger the business sector becomes, the more developed and progressive the province would be, Governor Petilla added.

Mr. Samuel Tiu, the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry president informed that the 3rd Leyte Business Month celebration promises to be marked with high impact activities aimed at creating awareness on the business opportunities in Leyte and which will revolve around the theme: “Harnessing Local Potentials for Economic Development.”

The choice of the team is very appropriate. The theme for the maiden year of the celebration was “Together We Can,” after which, the second year adopted the theme “Enhancing and Sustaining Economic Growth and Development.”

This year’s Leyte Business Month celebration kicks off with the Media Launching on October 9, 2009 at the Harampang Ha PIA, media interaction at the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office.

On October 14, the Opening Program and the cutting of the ribbon for the IT, Tourism and OTOP, Agri-Aqua Trade Fair and Exhibits will be conducted at the People’s Center. After the opening program, a Panindugan CATV program will be featured by the Philippine Information Agency and the Leyte Chamber.

Mr. James Dechos, the LCCI consultant, informed that the planned motorcade will not push through as the NGO has to pay P4,500.00 to be given permit to hold a motorcade.

Together with the Tourism, OTOP and IT Expo which will run from October 14-21, various activities such as the Garden Show, Furniture Show and the Discuento Fair, will also be conducted at the People’s Center and Library.

October 15 and 16 will be highlighted with IT Sector Activities such as CICT Forum, IT Jobs Fair, IT Tour, IT Raffle Draw and Medical Transcription Career Orientation Seminar.

Tourism Sector Activities will be the focus on October 17 and October 18. Among the activities are Tourism Appreciation Seminar for Police Officers; Tourism Forum; Oktubafest at MacArthur Park, Tourism Raffle Draw; Tourism Appreciation for Transport Operators; and Tourism Investment Forum.

October 19 and 20 are days showcasing the OTOP and Agri-Aqua Sector activities such as Investment Conference; Seminar on How to Start and Manage a Small Business Seminar; Employer-Employees Forum and the Bahandi Regional Trade Exhibit.

The Closing Ceremonies for the Trade Fair will be conducted at the Main Hall of the People’s Center on October 21.

Moreover, the Gabay sa Pagnenegosyo Cable TV programs will be shown over Channel 18, Filproducts from October 1 -31. Icot Tours will be made available from October 14 -31. On October 27 -28, the Governor Icot Petilla Golf Tournament will be conducted at the San Juanico Golf and Country Club.

The 3rd Leyte Business Month will end with a bang on October 29, with the launching of the New SMED Showroom and the Awards and Recognition Night at the SMED Center. (PIA 8)
