Lawyer Raymond Apita files CoC for congressman of Eastern Samar
BORONGAN, Eastern Samar – With his political battlecry, “Change We Believe In,” Atty. Raymond Operario Apita has formally filed his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for congressman of Eastern Samar under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) yesterday, Nov. 30, 2009, with the Provincial Comelec Office here.
He was accompanied by the immediate members of his family, high school classmates, supporters and friends after they heard Mass at the Our Lady of the Nativity Cathedral in the morning when he filed his CoC at the Comelec Office.
Based on the Comelec Provincial Office records, Atty. Apita was the fifth congressional candidate for congressman of the Lone District of Eastern Samar as of 11 a.m. yesterday. The others were incumbent Congressman Teodulo Coquilla of Lakas-Kampi-CMD; Miguel Angelo Hobayan of Oras – Independent; former DECS Director Maximo Aljibe of Borongan – NP; and Atty. Conrado Macasa of Salcedo – Independent.
Gov. Ben P. Evardone and his entire slate have yet to file their CoCs with the Comelec as we go to press. Evardone is running for congressman under Lakas-Kampi-CMD. They are expected to file their COCs after paying a courtesy call on Bishop Crispin Varquez yesterday.
In an earlier interview with Atty. Apita, he said that it’s time that the political system in Eastern Samar be changed from its old structure, giving more emphasis on developments in the barangays. Allocating even distribution of funds to barangays will empower them to be autonomous in providing livelihood and other development projects rather than the present system which only breeds corruptions to those in power, he added.
He said that he is optimistic that his call for change will be heeded by the young voters who represent 60% of the voters in the province. He added that NPC would file their municipal candidates for the national and local elections in 2010 as their candidates will file COCs in their respective municipal Comelec Registrars before the deadline today, Dec. 1.
