Kananga LGU holds barangay visitation, consultation

KANANGA, Leyte — The local government of Kananga under the leadership of Mayor Elmer C. Codilla continue to bring government services closer to the people by conducting barangay visitation and consultation in Barangays Masarayao and Montebello last January 8, 2010.

Hundreds of residents of the two barangays have availed of various services of the local government since part of the barangay visitation and consultation was bringing LGU offices to the barangays.

These offices were the Mayor’s Office, Rural Health Unit, Local Civil Registrar, Municipal Treasurer’s Office, Municipal Agriculture’s Office, Local Energy Board, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Civil Security Unit. Also present during the activity were the Kananga Police Station, and Bureau of Fire Protection-Kananga that likewise conducted dialogue (pulong-pulong) with local officials and residents.

The services offered by the local government included medical consultation, giving of medicines, dental services by the Rural Health Unit, issuance of CTC by Municipal Treasurer’s Office, new and late registration for Live Birth by Local Civil Registrar, issuance of card for senior citizens by DSWD, verification and application for electrification refund by Local Energy Board (LEB), Training for Barangay Tanod by the CSU, and other services. There was also feeding for children aged 3-6 years old.

During the visit of the two barangays, the barangay officials came in full force together with other appointed officials. Barangay Chairman of Masarayao Marcos Cuizon for his part said that he discussed with Mayor Codilla regarding the road right of way issue which affects some of his constituents, while Barangay Chairman of Montebello, Noel Gomez said that their barangay is in need of potable water since the existing water system in this town did not reach their barangay.

But Mayor Codilla told Gomez that originally their barangay was part of the P 47–million water system project but the previous administration failed to implement what was contained in the program of work, thus leaving Barangay Montebello without sufficient source of potable water. Municipal officials vowed to solve the problem the soonest time possible.

The activity was one of the programs of the present administration in improving the delivery of services to its constituents. Mayor Elmer C. Codilla said that the barangay visitation and consultation started in 2008. “Ato ning gituyo aron ihatod ang mga serbisyo, diha mismo sa mga barangay,” Mayor Codilla said.

He said that part of the activity is the joint session by municipal and barangay officials to discuss and deliberate important concerns of the barangays. “Anhi sab nato masabtan ang panginahanglan sa mga Barangay, unsay ilang mga hangyo, ug uban pa,” said Vice Mayor Macario V. Lumangtad Jr.

The mayor explained that by February 2010, they are targeting to finish the visitation and consultation of all 23 barangays within the municipality.

Present during the activity were municipal officials and all SB members, and representatives from different offices of the LGU. On January 12, the LGU here is set to conduct barangay visitation and consultation in Barangay Lim-ao and Tongonan, both upland barangays that are host of the geothermal plants operated by Energy Development Corp. (EDC). (GERARD REYES)
