Gov. Evardone files COC for congressman of Eastern Samar under Lakas-Kampi-CMD

BORONGAN, Eastern Samar – Ending all speculations whether Gov. Ben P. Evardone will run for congressman of the Lone District of Eastern Samar, Evardone and his entire provincial slate under Lakas-Kampi-CMD formally filed their COCs with the Provincial COMELEC of Eastern Samar in Borongan on Monday morning.

This, after they sought spiritual counsel and guidance from Bishop Crispin Varquez at the Bishop’s Palace in Borongan.

Those who filed their COCs together with Evardone were: Senior Board Member Generoso “Colonge” Yu – Governor; Senior Board Member, Atty. Jovi L. Opinion – Vice Governor; for SP Members, 1st District: SPM Editha Sepulveda, SPM Aldwin Aklao, Jipapad Mayor Jojie Montallana, Atty. Byron Suyot and Atty. Jo-an Celerino Bagro Jr. For the 2nd District: SPM. Atty. Enerio “Dodoy” Sabulao, SPM Beatriz Lopez Reyes, Ernesto Hilvano, Jonas Abuda and Gorgonio Cabacaba.

In a live interview before he filed his COC, Gov. Evardone said his decision to run for Congressman came after an in-depth soul-searching examination of conscience since he has still many programs and projects for Eastern Samar that he has to do.

“This is just my second term as governor of our province and I have many things to do yet for our province such as Climate Change and the lives of our people,” he said. “But the clamor of our supporters, mayors, barangay leaders and many civil societies for me to run for congressman has compelled me to run,” he added.

Gov. Evardone will be facing his political nemesis, Congressman Teodulo Coquilla who is also running as congressman under Lakas and six other congressional contenders for the Lone District of Eastern Samar.

Coquilla and Evardone both claimed to be the provincial chairman of Lakas-Kampi-CMD in Eastern Samar. Coquilla was endorsed by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and Sec. Gabriel Claudio of Lakas last Nov. 19 and Evardone was appointed by Lakas presidential bet Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro on a later date.

Meanwhile, Giporlos Mayor Mateo Biong yesterday filed his COC as congressional bet in the Lone district of Eastern Samar in the May 2010 polls.

Biong filed his candidacy under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.

Incumbent Vice Gov. Leander Geli has also filed his candidacy yesterday for the gubernatorial seat of Eastern Samar, also under the Pwersa ng Masa. (Pio L. Calvo)
