Ex-Tacloban police chief to head PHRD at PRO-8
TACLOBAN CITY — Senior Supt. Brigido B. Unay will be designated to head the Police Regional Office 8’s personnel and human resource division (PHRD) after he was pulled out as OIC-police chief of this city, a position favorable for his career as senior police officer which is considered to be a promotion post.
The disclosure was made by Chief Supt. Drusillo F. Bolodo, deputy regional director for administration, right after the formal turnover of command to the new PNP chief of Tacloban Police Office Senior Supt. Sergio Dimandal.
The position for PHRD was still vacant months after it was vacated by Senior Supt. Pepito Pacada, which was earlier appointed as PNP provincial director in the province of Southern Leyte.
“We were preparing the position as Personnel and Human Resource head for Col. Unay,” Bolodo said.
In his message during the simple turn over of command, Col. Unay expressed his gratitude to Mayor Alfred Romualdez and the top officials of PRO-8 for another opportunity in serving the people of Tacloban, in which he believes that officers of the PNP usually come and go.
“This is a usual thing to happen for us as senior officers of the PNP organization, position we serve is not our title but what is important is our continued service and commitment to safeguard the community,” Unay said.
Unay, a graduate of the elite Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class ‘86, once served as chief of police of the Tacloban PNP station.
Meanwhile, Mayor Alfred Romualdez, who was present during the turn over of command, reassured his commitment and continued support to the PNP, especially in the anti-criminality campaign and professionalism of the rank and file, as he emphasized that the PNP is not only designed for law enforcement but also for establishing the integrity of the PNP organization.
The commitment of the local government unit of this city, according to Mayor Romualdez, should be reciprocated with more peaceful community by proper implementation of the mandate to hold anti-criminality campaign.
However, the new Tacloban PNP chief, Sr. Supt. Dimandal, refused to give a categorical commitment to stop the snatching, and robberies occurring within the city, as he instead assured that this will be given a due course of action through the help and support of the public and his men as well.
“ I cannot promise, mahirap kasi mag-assure eh, but pag-aaralan ito natin, as I will ask the support and cooperation of my men,” Dimandal said.
Dimandal, a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy Class 1986, said in his message that it is always a challenge of law to double their effort in the law enforcement as he warned his men that implementation of “Tamang Bihis, Tamang Pag-uugali at Tamang Oras” of the PNP personnel will be the top priority to professionalize as a way to help develop the Tacloban police office that will start itself from the PNP personnel assigned in that office.
Dimandal, a native of Silang, Cavite, was assigned at Camp Crame before he was given this new position. (MIRIAM GARCIA DESACADA)
