EDC worker shot by unidentified gunman

A worker at the Energy Development Corp. is in critical condition at the Ormoc Sugar Planters Association (OSPA) hospital after an unidentified gunman shot him twice in the neck about 8:30 a.m. yesterday near the A-Mall along Rizal St., Ormoc City.

Police Community Precinct 1 chief Inspector Neil Montaño identified the victim as Carlos Venezuela y Raquel, 54, married and a mechanical engineer assigned in one of the major departments of EDC in Tongonan and a resident of Sitio Tinag-an, Barangay Ipil, Ormoc City.

According to case investigators SPO3 Eduardo Bituin, the victim who was at the driver’s seat on his Nissan Frontier pick-up (UTD-275) was in front of the A-Mall waiting for his wife and children when an unidentified gunman shot him at close range with a .45 caliber pistol.

The suspected gunman casually walked toward Lopez Jaena St., where a blue Yamaha DT 125 motorcycle waited and was used as gateaway vehicle. The suspect fled towards an unknown direction.

Bituin said the victim’s wife Arminda, 49, a school teacher at Barangay San Antonio was about to board their vehicle when the suspect fired on his husband. She was hit in her upper leg, possibly from the penetrating slug that hit her husband.

Bystanders brought Arminda to a nearby clinic for treatment while the husband was brought to the OSPA hospital on board the his vehicle by some persons who responded to the scene.

A driver of a police service car said he was on board a motorcycle at the back of the victim’s vehicle when he heard gunfires.
