DENR to hold regional awarding on Search for Sustainable and Eco friendly schools
TACLOBAN CITY- In cooperation with Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education and private sector SMART communication, the DENR national office environmental management bureau will be awarding schools in Region 8 which participated in the search for sustainable and eco-friendly in the afternoon of Nov. 10 at Robinsons place mall.
Maribel Munsayac, chief, environmental education and information section, said this is good because through this search the environmental awareness and environmental education will start in schools.
“The students will learn and get involved, and bring it at home,” Munsayc said.
The search started October last year and the deadline for the submission of entries ended last June this year.
There were four schools that participated in the search. Two from the first level- elementary school of excellence in Tongonan, Kananga, Bonga elementary school in Biliran; for secondary- San Policarpo National high school in Calbayog and Visayas State University in Baybay, Leyte.
The physical criterion is the environmental messages of the schools; and for policy criteria are the schools initiatives which are related to the environment.
Participants will be given plaques of appreciation and P5,000 cash each for the winners.
The search aims to endorse that there are really schools that are implementing environmental programs. “One aim in this awarding is to disseminate the information because this will become institutionalized. At least if the schools will be aware they will already participate in next year’s search,” Munsayac said. (Marjorie Karen T. Onyot- LNU Intern)
