TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Budget and Management regional office here will start releasing this week the P7,000 additional cash gift for government workers nationwide after Malacañang approved the allocation of P7 billion for this purpose.
DBM Regional Director Imelda Laceras said they were instructed by Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya to start disbursing the cash benefits earlier than the Christmas holidays.
“Since last week, we’re determining how many employees will receive the cash benefits for every agency,” Laceras said in an interview.
The DBM is scheduled to receive the guideline for the release of cash gift early this week.
It was earlier announced by Andaya that the national government will shoulder P7,000 for every employee, while government agencies would have the option to add P3,000 from their own savings.
The maximum bonus that a government employee could get is P10,000.
“There were speculations about the amount of cash gifts prior to the pronouncement but precisely, this is the official amount,” Laceras added.
The cash gift comes on top of the Christmas bonus that the government had released in two installments, in late May and mid-November, to the employees.
The cash gift will cover permanent, casual and contractual employees and the amount will come from several items in the national budget, according to Laceras.
For local government units and government-owned and controlled corporations, it will be charged to their own budgets. “We expect that they will also pattern the same amount,” the DBM regional chief said.
In October, the budget department gave government employees adversely affected by typhoons, the option to avail themselves of the second installment of the yearend bonus a month ahead of its scheduled release on November 15.
