DAR-8 employees donate cash to Luzon flood victims

TACLOBAN CITY – The 130 officials and employees of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) regional office here raised a total amount of P130,000 for co-employees and agrarian reform beneficiaries affected by the flood that submerged a wide area of Luzon.

However, half of the said amount was turned over to officials of DAR Region-1 who will pool all donations and appropriate these to the victims throughout this region, while the other half was given to the central office for the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Peping in other parts of Luzon.

In behalf of DAR-8 Regional Director John Maruhom, Assistant Regional Director for Administration Antonio Tan handed the P65,000 cash to Regional Director Homer Tobias of DAR Region-1. This was witnessed by other officials of DAR-1 as well as Assistant Regional Director for Operations Reynaldo Villas and other officials and staff from DAR-8 who were in La Union for an education tour.

Tobias expressed thanks for the said support which, according to him, is very much needed at the moment as his region was among those badly affected by the deluge.

Based on their assessment, Tobias disclosed that his Regional Information Officer Jennifer Dulay was the worst hit whose house situated along the river bank in Bauang, La Union was submerged under water.

Meanwhile, Tan turned over the other half of the P130,000 to the DAR central office for flood victims in other parts of Luzon. (JOSE ALSMITH L. SORIA)
