Comelec : No extension of voters registration
TACLOBAN CITY — The registration of qualified voters for the national election on May 10, 2010 had ended at midnight of October 31, 2009.
The Comelec said there would no longer be any extension of voters’ registration after the Oct. 31 deadline.
Comelec Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Felicisimo Embalsado, however, clarified that “due to the many registrants still lining at the last hour of registration, those who were unable to register on Oct. 31 were given forms and their names listed down so they could file their forms on November 3, 2009 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.”
He further explained that since the capturing machine could only accommodate arouind 250-300 forms, many biometrics were not taken due to limited time. Some of these were the 1,309 applicants from Tacloban City, 318 from Ormoc City, 215 from Bay-Bay, 112 from Burauen, nine from Alang-Alang, 52 from La Paz, and 25 from Mahaplag, he added.
To avoid the same thing to happen in the next election, Atty. Embalsado encourages the applicants to go to their office earlier and not wait for the deadline. (Fila Villa N. Cañas-LNU Intern)
