Child molester ordered deported

A New Zealander, who is a convicted child molester in his country, will be kicked out of the country by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for being an undesirable alien.

David Stanley Tranter, 59, will be expelled pursuant to a summary deportation order that was issued against him by the BI board of commissioners last Nov. 27.

The three-man board, chaired by BI Commissioner Nonoy Libanan, also ordered the inclusion of Tranter in the immigration blacklist to prevent him from re-entering the country.

“Sex offenders like him (Tranter) who prey on children do not deserve the privilege to stay in our country,” said Libanan when asked to comment on the alien’s deportation.

Records showed that the New Zealander was arrested by immigration agents in Davao City June 5 after his presence there was reported by the local office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

He was arrested for his failure to present his passport or any other travel document even as he initially claimed that he was an Australian national.

According to BI intelligence chief Faizal Hussin, a check with the New Zealand embassy had confirmed that Tranter was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison by a court in January 2004.

The case allegedly stemmed from Tranter’s alleged sexual molestation of two girls in North Otago, New Zealand in 2000.

Hussin said Tranter’s sentence was extended to four more years after he elevated his case to the New Zealand court of appeals.

It was gathered that at the time of his arrest in Davao , the New Zealander had been under extended supervision for seven years and is considered to have breached the conditions of his release by fleeing his country to the Philippines. (PR)
