3,998 firearms owners avail of the gun amnesty
CAMP KANGLEON, Palo, Leyte – Around 3,998 firearms owners in the region have either availed of the registration or renewal of license in line with the campaign for gun amnesty of the PNP in Eastern Visayas.
Chief Inspector Orlando Gardiola, chief of firearms explosive division, said that the new registered firearms numbered 2,122 while renewed licenses of firearms was 1,876.
Gardiola added that the highest count of registered and renewed firearms came from Tacloban City with 505 renewed license firearms and 405 for the new registered firearms.
He said that the police office never failed to inform the public about the firearms amnesty program.
According to him, this is the first and last registration and renewal of licenses of firearms.
“We already extended the deadline from October 31, 2009 to November 30, 2009 and there is no special registration and renewal of licenses of firearms,” Gardiola said.
Gardiola strongly emphasized that the deadline of registration and renewal had already passed. For those who failed to register or renew the licenses of their firearms, be careful.
“Pagmasabutan nga your firearm is illegal it will automatically be turned over to the custody of the PNP office,” Gardiola said. (SYLVIA ALVERO ABADINGO)
