3 Paranas barangays get infra projects from the Army

CATBALOGAN, Samar — Three barangays from Paranas, Samar happily received infrastructure projects amounting to P4. 5 M each from the Army’s Kalayaan sa Barangay Program (KBP).

The turn-over was symbolized by a giant key that was handed over to the three Punong Barangays of Paco, Jose Roño and Concepcion.

The projects consist of a two-room schoolbuilding, one rural health center, street lights and water systems and drainage canals. Paco though had a“bonus” – a chapel.

Rural folks were happy over these projects as the barangay government cannot afford to finance projects amounting to millions with their meager IRA, shared Barangay Chairman Erlinda Labine of Paco.

Commanding General Arthur Tabaquero of the 8th Infantry Division, Presidential Assistant Cynthia Nierras, Col. Arnaldo Fernandez, Jr of the 53rd Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army and Col Arnulfo Atendido of the 803rd Infantry Brigade based in Northern, Samar graced the event attended by the rural folks truly grateful of the projects.

PIA learned that the project construction started without let-up in August 2009 and just stopped upon completion.

This, said Tabaquero in a statement, is the government’s way of pursuing peace and development in the Samar barangays as the vision of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Ms Elvira Babalcon, wife of the mayor of Paranas, along with the other barangay chairmen of the three barangays welcomed and entertained their visitors who came from as far as Tacloban City and Northern Samar.

Mayor Felix Babalcon came late as he spearheaded a tree planting activity in the Paranas watershed. However, he still had time to interact with the locals and his honored guests. ( Ninfa B Quirante)
